FAQ: Is Hypnosis Dangerous?

No, not at all. Going into a state of deep relaxation, or a trance, is not harmful. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all experience every day. We go in and out of trance every day. It is a natural ability

When you dream at night, get caught up into a movie, day dream, drive on a highway, you are experiencing hypnosis.

When considering formal hypnosis, it is recommended that your hypnotist be formally trained, certified and experienced with hypnosis coaching or hypnotherapy. Choosing a competent hypnotherapist will ensure faster and better results and will maximize the benefit of your hypnosis sessions and suggestions.

In some rare instances, hurtful memories may surface, a trained hypnotherapist or hypnotist will easily be able to calm you and use such memories and emotions to enhance your hypnosis session further.

Hypnosis is safe, below is a caption from the Mayo clinic’s website:

Hypnosis conducted under the care of a trained therapist is considered a safe complementary and alternative medicine treatment. Adverse reactions, such as headache, dizziness and nausea, can happen but are uncommon.

Use special caution before allowing a hypnotherapist to help you restore lost memories. In this type of hypnosis, some people actually create “memories” from their imagination, this is called memory distortion of false memory creation. These “implanted memories” can be very troubling to you and your loved ones. You should avoid this type of hypnosis unless your hypnotists is trained and experienced.
